The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that National Chi Nan University (NCNU) in Taiwan is offering master’s degree scholarship opportunities to Vincentians.
The scholarships are in business administration and information technology, innovation and application, and intelligent semiconductor and green technology and are different from the scholarships being offered by the Government of Taiwan through the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The ministry said in a press release that each programme is delivered in English and lasts two years. The scholarship covers full tuition, including complimentary on-campus accommodation, and provides a monthly stipend of US$200 for two years.
Eligible candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and provide proof of financial support of at least US$3,000 either through a personal financial statement or confirmed sponsorship.
Successful candidates are also responsible for their own arrival and return airfare.
SVG’s Ambassador-designate to Taiwan, Kenton X. Chance, said that scholarship recipients can work legally in Taiwan for up to 80 hours a month, earning approximately US$480, in addition to the US$200 stipend given by the university.
The diplomat said that the Government of SVG and the country’s embassy in Taiwan are working to determine what additional assistance they can provide to applicants for the scholarship.
“So, it’s important, once you are in any way interested at all, ensure that you apply. Once you’re accepted, we can work together and see what additional assistance we can give,” Chance said in a video posted on the Embassy’s Facebook page.
“So, once you are Vincentian, regardless of wherever you are, please apply and take advantage of this great opportunity to get a master’s education,” Chance said, noting that the application period ends on May 17.
