Marko Beceki was suspended from the Czech Grand Prix after the incident in the sprint race, when in a fit of rage he physically assaulted the steward, for which the Italian Aprilia driver spoke up and issued a public apology.
Marko Beceki found himself in the center of attention during the MotoGP weekend in the Czech Republic, but not because of the results, but because of the incident for which he was fined and suspended from the race in Brno.
The Italian motorcyclist, after taking off in the sprint race, in a moment of frustration, physically attacked the steward who was trying to get to his motorcycle, which was assessed as unsportsmanlike behavior and against the rules of the competition, reports B92.
The Aprilia driver soon came forward and issued a public apology to the entire MotoGP community.
“I would like to apologize to the entire MotoGP community for my behavior towards the steward. I am also sorry because I know how much effort and sacrifice stewards make to ensure our safety. Such behavior should not happen and there is no justification for it. I apologize to everyone, Aprilia and my fans,” said Beceki.
The incident occurred at the finish of the sprint race, the ninth of the season, when Beceki lost control and flew off the track while holding the fifth position. That mishap also cost him in the general standings, where his advantage over teammate Jorge Martin has now been reduced to 15 points, which further complicates the fight for the title in the royal class.
The sprint in Brno went to Frančeska Banjaja on a Ducati, while Ai Ogura from Trekhaus and Mark Markes crossed the finish line behind him in third place.
On Sunday, Beceka was supposed to start from the fourth position at the Czech Grand Prix, right behind Ogura, Fabio di Djanantoni and Banjaja, but due to the penalty, his place on the grid will be taken by Mark Markes.
The main race in Brno starts at 2 p.m., while the track program starts at 11 a.m.
