The introduction of the Vienna – Ohrid airline is of great importance for Ohrid Airport. It will contribute to a greater number of foreign tourists and to the economic development of Ohrid and the Ohrid Region, assesses the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski.
This morning, the first plane of “Austria Airlines” landed at the “St. Paul the Apostle” airport in Ohrid, which officially started the operation of the new regular Vienna – Ohrid airline. The line will run twice a week, every Thursday and Sunday, which means that Ohrid and the Ohrid coast will have a direct connection with another European destination.
– The introduction of this line is of great importance for the development of the Ohrid airport, because the airport in Vienna is one of the largest European hubs and one of the most important air centers in Central and Eastern Europe, with over 200 connecting flights in 66 countries across Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, which means connecting Ohrid with over sixty countries around the world. The fact that this line is operated by “Austrian Airlines”, one of the top ten largest airlines in Europe, is of additional importance, which confirms the seriousness of the investment and the quality of the services offered to passengers – states Deputy Prime Minister Nikoloski in a post on Facebook.
With this, a total of 16 airlines operate from Ohrid Airport, of which 13 are regular and three charter lines, which represents a significant expansion of the network of destinations available to citizens and visitors.
– Today, Macedonia is recognized on the map of numerous tour operators and airlines. With active support measures, we develop air traffic, increase the tourist potential of the state and provide better quality and more accessible services for citizens. As a result of government policies, 28 new air destinations have been opened directly. The Government’s strategic determination is to fully utilize the capacities of Skopje International Airport and “St. Paul the Apostle” Airport – Ohrid, by expanding the network of destinations, attracting new airlines and providing better quality services for passengers – says Nikoloski.
He reminds that the complete reconstruction of the Ohrid airport is in progress with the aim of improving its capacities, improving the infrastructure and creating conditions for further growth of air traffic and the number of passengers.
– The goal is to serve more than 3.5 million passengers through the two Macedonian airports this year, and to exceed four million passengers in the coming years. By implementing financial support measures to attract new companies, we enable citizens to travel to European capitals easier and faster, which directly contributes to the development of the economy, education, culture, health and tourism – Nikoloski points out.
