Hardly anyone will have missed the fact that it has been hot these past few days. On Monday, as announced, the summer weather will go a step further: the state weather service Meteolux has declared the highest warning level, red, from 12 p.m. There is an “extreme danger” from “extreme thermal stress”. The orange warning level remains in effect until midday.
Meteolux expects temperatures of up to 35 degrees in Luxembourg on Monday. Even in the nights, there is hardly any cooling to be expected. According to current forecasts, the heat wave could even worsen over the course of the week: temperatures of 37 degrees are quite possible.
Tragic death in the capital
A tragic incident in Luxembourg City shows how dangerous these extreme temperatures are. Just hours after police inquired about the condition of a homeless man the man was found lifeless on the street. Witnesses expressed suspicion that the man died as a result of the heat and had not received sufficient help beforehand.
Also Luxembourg Communities react to the weather and decide on a reduced program for schools and in some cases for the national holiday.
