Sohar: The activities of the Mango Extravaganza 2026 commenced on Tuesday in the Wilayat of Sohar, North Al Batinah Governorate.
The three-day event is organised by the Office of the Wali of Sohar in cooperation with the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Batinah, with the participation of a number of farmers from various wilayats of the governorate.
The launch of the extravaganza was held under the auspices of Mohammed Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah.
Sheikh Saud Mohammed Al Hinai, Wali of Sohar, explained that organizing the extravaganza comes within the framework of efforts aimed at supporting the agricultural sector, enhancing the status of the Omani mango crop, highlighting the quality and diversity of agricultural production in the governorate, encouraging farmers and productive families to market their products, and opening new horizons for promoting local products.
He added that the festival is considered one of the prominent agricultural events that contribute to highlighting the agricultural potentials enjoyed by the governorate, reflecting the keenness of the relevant authorities to develop the agricultural sector, empower farmers, and enhance their contribution to economic and social development.
The extravaganza is witnessing wide participation from farmers and producers, featuring 45 pavilions to display a variety of Omani mango varieties and associated products, along with other agricultural products and crops, including fresh dates (rutab), grapes, bananas, figs, and lemons. It also includes products for the care of mango trees and agriculture in general, reflecting the distinguished agricultural and productive potentials that the governorate abounds in, and enhancing the presence of local products in the markets.
The extravaganza’s activities include a number of scientific and awareness programs, comprising working papers and specialized lectures delivered by specialists and experts in the agricultural sector. These cover the production of fruit trees and ways to develop them, pests and diseases affecting agricultural crops and methods to combat them, as well as reviewing mango varieties, types, and their agricultural and productive characteristics.
The extravaganza’s program also includes presenting a number of successful experiences of farmers in North Al Batinah Governorate, focusing on success stories in cultivating mangoes, figs, and other agricultural products. This contributes to the exchange of expertise and knowledge, and motivates farmers to adopt modern agricultural practices that raise the quality and efficiency of production.
