A “missing alert” was issued for the disappearance of the woman from the village of Agia near Chania, 45-year-old Stavrula Levendaki, at the beginning of this month, and the tenant in her house was the last person to see her before she disappeared three weeks ago.
That is why he was the focus of the police from the very beginning, he was called to give a statement, but he denied any connection with the woman’s disappearance.
The Macedonian citizen was arrested on Friday for possession and cultivation of drugs, and during the questioning at the police station about the case of the missing during the night, he confessed to the murder and indicated to the police the place where he buried the body, which was later found.
Regarding the reasons for the murder, he allegedly said that he and the owner had an argument about the state of the apartment.
According to the information of the MIA correspondent from Athens, it is about the 43-year-old M.L. with a Macedonian passport, who has been living and working in Crete for several years and has no criminal record.
He lived in the apartment of the missing woman for several years, in his initial statements to the police, immediately after the disappearance he said that on May 30, the owner visited him to collect the money for the rent, after which she left.
Since he was the last one to see the woman, he came under the scrutiny of the police, who conducted an investigation in the apartment and in the three vehicles of the Macedonian citizen, which, although they were thoroughly cleaned, still found traces of blood in the apartment and one of the vehicles.
This is a case that was one of the main topics in Greece in the past week, considering that the perpetrator, although he was one of the main suspects, not only denied any connection during the statements to the police, but also gave statements to the media conveying his views and shifting the blame to others.
