A strong storm followed by thunderstorms hit the Split-Dalmatia region late this afternoon and caused fires near Vrgorac, Tugar, Klis and Trilje. reported by the Croatian media.
Split County Fire Operations Center (ŽVOC) learned that the fires were likely caused by lightning strikes in several locations, and among the first fires that broke out near Bishko, not far from Trilj, firefighters quickly extinguished them.
Lightning strikes caused fires
Several firefighters went to the field with vehicles in Tugar, near Omiš, where a fire broke out, which they prevented from spreading and put it under control.
The third fire broke out very high on the hill above Vrgorac, which is controlled by the local fire brigade.
The last fire was registered in Blace on Klis. He is still active there, because tonight a Canadian arrived to help the ground forces on the ground.
Dozens of firefighters from the county are extinguishing the fires, and mostly low-stemmed vegetation and forest are burning on the ground. Firefighters emphasize that at no time were human lives or objects threatened. The size of the burnt area will be known only after all the fires have been extinguished.
