Support: Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Asmaa chaired, Tuesday in Rabat, the first Day of Patients Suffering from Deafness and launched the “Hearing aid for all” program which aims to make hearing aids free and accessible to the most deprived Moroccans.
Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Asmaa, President of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, chaired the first Patient Day for deafness on Tuesday in Rabat. This event was marked by the launch of the “Hearing aid for all” program, which is in line with the national “Nasmaa” program and the international program “United: We get along better”. A new expression of the particular interest that His Majesty King Mohammed VI accords to education, health, integration and well-being of deaf and hard of hearing children, this day began with the visit made by HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa to the Specialties Hospital in Rabat where she met Moroccan and Palestinian children as well as others from African countries, who had recently undergone implant transplant operations cochlears. In total, 56 children, accompanied by their families, were welcomed to Rabat for cochlear and bone-anchored implantations, as part of the “United, we get along” program.
On this occasion, HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa followed explanations on the bone anchoring technique with active piezoelectric technology, which benefits children for whom the conventional cochlear implant can do nothing. At the headquarters of the “Lalla Asmaa” Foundation, Her Royal Highness visited the stands of leisure activities offered to implanted children, before following a presentation on the importance of speech therapy, parental guidance, home monitoring, and the value of the external cochlear implant device, the daily maintenance of which directly determines the quality of the child’s hearing.
His Royal Highness then visited the cochlear implant adjustment room for more than 100 children implanted as part of the “Nasmaa” program, thanks to the new “ConnectCare” device, developed by the Foundation and allowing certain adjustments to be carried out remotely, in real time, via a secure connection. Along the same lines, the Foundation has developed a remote speech therapy application which allows sessions to continue with increased regularity, an often decisive factor in language acquisition. This day was marked by the launch of the unique national program “Hearing aids for all”, which aims to make hearing aids free and accessible to the most deprived Moroccans. This program extends the Foundation’s mandate beyond cochlear implants to all forms of deafness and hard of hearing. HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa chaired the signing ceremony of five cooperation agreements aimed at improving and expanding access to hearing equipment throughout the country. The first was concluded between the Foundation and the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and Family and the delegated ministry responsible for the budget. The second was concluded with the Mohammed VI Foundation for the promotion of social works in education and training.
The other agreements were concluded between the Foundation and the Territorial Health Groups (GST) of the regions of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Casablanca-Settat. Since the launch of its “Nasmaa” program in 2022, the Lalla Asmaa Foundation has succeeded, under the leadership of Her Royal Highness, in the cochlear implantation of 950 Moroccan children and 368 children from 22 countries around the world.
