Freyr Alexandersson has been appointed coach of the Norwegian football team Rosenborg and his contract is valid until the end of 2029. This is stated on the company’s website but Freyr was recently fired from the job of coach of the Norwegian team Brann.
“I am very proud and grateful for the great interest I have felt from the Rosenborg board. Our conversations have been honest, open and purposeful. I have great faith that together we can bring Norway’s most successful football club to where it belongs. Everyone is aware of the situation we are in now, which is serious and needs to be taken very seriously,” says Freyr on the club’s website.
Freyr took over Brann’s training in January last year, but before that he had managed Kortrijk in Belgium, Lyngby in Denmark, was the head coach of the Icelandic women’s national team and assistant coach of the Icelandic men’s national team at several major tournaments.
Alfred happy with the new coach
Alfred Finnbogason, head of sports, is very happy that Rosenborg’s new coach is in place.
“We are very happy to welcome Frey to Thrándheim. We believe he is the right coach for Rosenborg and with his varied experience he will be able to contribute a lot to the team in the future,” says Alfred.
Rosenborg, which is the most successful team in Norway and has won the championship 26 times, has had a bad time this season, but the team is in the second lowest place in the league with 9 points after 11 games.
Rosenborg’s first game under Frey will be against Kristiansund at home on July 12.
