“Explosion between Zurich and Uitikon?” – “Then noises like fireworks” – “Huge bang”: Several news scouts heard a loud noise near Uitikon late on Friday evening. Some people think it’s another severe thunderstorm, as was the case hours before. “But that actually sounds different now.” One user reports: “My windows vibrated.”
As the Zurich cantonal police write, several reports of explosions and fires in a forest near Uitikon-Waldegg were received shortly after 11 p.m. When the emergency services arrived, the building, a fireworks display, was already on fire and a large part had already collapsed. In the meantime, the fire was brought under control and extinguished with great effort. The fire department was able to prevent the flames from spreading to the forest. According to current information, no one was injured. There was extensive material damage.
The fire was also a topic on Reddit: “Everything shook,” wrote one person. Another says: “First I heard a loud bang, then I saw a big fireball and fireworks near the Üetliberg.” A pressure wave was also felt.
The Zurich cantonal police cannot yet provide any information about the cause. The investigations are ongoing.
