ABACO, The Bahamas — For a fourth consecutive year, Jimmy’s Wines & Spirits (JWS) returns as platinum sponsor of “Regattas in The Abacos”, continuing its longstanding commitment to Bahamian sailing culture, community celebration, and one of the country’s most beloved maritime traditions.
Taking place June 20-28, the regatta will once again transform the Sea of Abaco into a vibrant showcase of competitive sailing, island hospitality, and community spirit. The week-long event features five racing days, two lay days, and a closing celebration, with activities spanning four islands — Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Mainland Abaco, and Elbow Cay.
As part of its sponsorship, JWS will operate through three of its flagship brands — Sands Beer, Mount Gay Rum, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, while operating complimentary sailor bars at every awards ceremony and lay day gathering throughout the regatta.
For Jimmy’s Wines & Spirits, the annual return to Abaco has become about much more than sponsorship.
“We, at Jimmy’s Wines & Spirits, are proud to sponsor ‘Regattas in The Abacos’ for the fourth consecutive year,” said Marketing Assistant for Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Co. Blas Ingraham. “The greatest takeaway from this event is the strong sense of camaraderie and fellowship shared between the Abaconians and the sailors, along with the excitement and energy of the races. It is truly a celebration of community, tradition, and the spirit of sailing.”
That sense of connection is part of what makes the event unique. Unlike many regattas that remain in a single harbor, ‘Regattas in The Abacos’ carries competitors and spectators from cay to cay throughout the week, allowing participants to experience the distinct character of each community while enjoying some of the most spectacular sailing conditions in the world.
The history of organized regatta racing in Abaco dates back more than five decades, when sailors on Green Turtle Cay gathered for friendly competitions on the protected waters of the Sea of Abaco. Today, the event attracts sailors, families, and visitors from across The Bahamas and beyond, while continuing to celebrate the island hospitality and maritime heritage that have always defined the region.
For local organizers, partnerships with sponsors such as Jimmy’s Wines & Spirits help ensure the continued success of the event and the communities it touches.
“Sands Beer, Mount Gay and all the Jimmy’s brands have been wonderful supporters of this event over the last few years and we look forward to many more years in the future,” said Commodore Dwayne Wallas. “We cannot do it without their support. We’re looking forward to another wonderful event next week and we truly appreciate them.”
Beyond the racing itself, the regatta delivers significant benefits to local businesses, restaurants, bars, marinas, and accommodations throughout Abaco. Each stop along the route creates opportunities for residents and visitors to gather, celebrate, and support the local economy while enjoying the excitement on and off the water.
For the JWS team, returning each year has provided an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, support valued business partners, and participate in an event that showcases some of the very best aspects of Bahamian life.
“With sails set and anticipation building, my fellow brand managers and I are looking forward to supporting another successful event,” said Ingraham. “Jimmy’s Wines & Spirits looks forward to another week of friendly competition, island hospitality, and unforgettable moments on the waters of the Sea of Abaco. Make sure you come out and support.”
Hundreds of locals are expected to support the regatta this year.
