According to the report of Economy Online, Abdul Naser Hammati, the Governor General of the Central Bank, during his trip to Moscow, emphasizing the need to increase the level of trade between Iran and Russia, announced the completion of the project of connecting the “Shatab” and “Mir” banking networks in the next two months and promised new openings in the way of facilitating the activities of Iranian businessmen.

Abdulnaser Hemmati, in a think-tank meeting with Iranian economic activists in Moscow, pointed to the progress of the implementation stages of the project to connect Iran’s “Shatab” and Russia’s “Mir” banking networks, and announced: “The third stage of this project is underway and will be fully operational within the next two months, the details of which will be announced soon.”
The need to promote trade exchanges by relying on the North-South corridor
Referring to the current volume of trade exchanges between the two countries of 6 billion dollars, the Governor General of the Central Bank considered this figure insufficient and emphasized the necessity of maximum utilization of the capacities of the “North-South” corridor. He added: “According to the resources and facilities available in both countries, the promotion of this level of exchanges is on the agenda.”
Opening in LCs and success of exchange rate integration policy
Referring to his expert meetings with his Russian counterpart in Moscow, Hemmati announced new proposals to solve monetary and banking problems and emphasized that the existing obstacles to opening letters of credit (LC) for Iranian businessmen are being removed. He also referred to the atmosphere of the meeting and described the implementation of the exchange rate integration policy as a scientific and successful measure that has been able to solve some of the challenges of economic activists.

Kazem Jalali, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, also stated in this meeting that Iran’s view of Russia is more than a political ally: “Our efforts are focused on raising the level of trade and removing barriers to exchanges.” Referring to the regional developments, he emphasized that looking at trade with the northern countries of Iran is more necessary than ever.

In the end, referring to the international developments, the Governor General of the Central Bank predicted that the conditions for the activities of Iranian businessmen will be eased. He pointed out that at the same time as these developments, the central bank has special policies to control inflation, manage liquidity and maintain people’s purchasing power so that the country’s economy is on the path of progress and stability.
