The civil protest against the government and tourism projects in Zvërnec and Sazan has entered its 17th day today, following one of the longest mobilizations in the history of Albania.
As usual, the citizens started gathering in Skënderbej Square, then continued towards the boulevard “Dëshmorët e Kombit” and the building of the Prime Minister’s Office, where for more than two weeks daily speeches and gatherings have been held.
One of the most special characteristics of this movement has been the constant participation of families and small children, who have become part of the marches and night gatherings.
The organizers announced that starting from Wednesday, the protest will take place at 19:00, changing the current gathering time.
The initiator of the protest, Alben Kola, declared that this evening there will be no speeches by organizers or public figures, but only by young people.
The movement has continued every day for more than two weeks, while the organizers have described it as a civic and non-partisan protest.
In recent days, the marches have been accompanied by strong public debates, especially after the blocking of the Tirana-Durres highway and the axis towards the “Mother Teresa” International Airport.
Meanwhile, the debate on the projects in Sazan and Zvërnec has also moved to the European level.
The Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, recently stated that the European Commission has received guarantees from the Albanian government that the project will be subject to a full environmental assessment and that European standards will be respected, while Prime Minister Edi Rama has emphasized that Brussels has been informed in detail about all the procedures followed.
Exactly this statement of Commissioner Kos has been ironized by the protesters with placards.
