Two Kuwaitis Sentenced to 3 Years Imprisonment for Mocking Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, June 18: The Court of Appeals overturned the ruling of a lower court, which refrained from sentencing two Kuwaiti citizens and instead sentenced them to three years in prison with hard labor in a case related to a video posted on social media that mocked the current situation in the country, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The case is based on the statement issued by the Ministry of Interior regarding the arrest of two Kuwaitis and a Colombian after a video went viral on social media, showing them uttering offensive statements. The ministry pointed out that the contents of the video entail the commission of certain crimes, such as disseminating false news, harming national interests, and misusing a telephone. It confirmed that legal measures were against the defendants and they were referred to the concerned authorities. It warned that the law is strictly applied on anyone who publishes or circulates content deemed harmful to the interests of the country or affects national security.
