The senator of Puerto Plata, Ginnette Bournigal, asked this Wednesday the governor of the Central Bank, Hector Valdez Albizuand the members of the Monetary Board to order a change of color in the RD$200 and RD$1,000 bills, due to the confusion generated by the similarity between the two.
During the ordinary session of the Senate, Bournigal explained that he observed several mishaps in banking entities where employees they confuse the paper money of RD$200 and RD$1,000while he explained that he experienced something similar in a bank where he realized the situation in time.
The legislator commented that on another occasion for giving a RD$200 bill to a young man, he gave him a RD$1,000 bill.
“I ask the governor of the Central Bank and the members of the Monetary Board that in compliance with their legal functions, prior to site studies, have color change of the 200 and 1,000 peso bills, given the confusion that they create in transactions carried out in banking institutions and in other places of commercial activities,” Bournigal said when reading a letter from his seat.
Likewise, the senator asked that the State, through the corresponding organizations, ensure that people can carry out the development of economic activities and the management of resources to comply with their obligations, and carry out these means of payment with the least possible risk, “mainly those that can unnecessarily lead to a loss due to mistaken identification of these RD$200 and RD$1,000 bills.”
Bournigal asked the secretary of the Senate of the Republic to formally and directly deliver the letter to the governor of the Central Bank and the members of the Monetary Board.
