PARAMARIBO — The organization Green Entertainment Suriname now links its party concept Owru Skoro to national holidays and special moments on the calendar. By working with themed editions, she wants to give each event its own character and make it better suited to the public’s perception of the world. “Owru Skoro has always been about bringing people, culture, music and positive energy together. We started with a Wrokoman Edition in connection with May 1, Labor Day. In addition, we consciously choose dates that fall on the evening before a national holiday,” Dean Young of Green Entertainment Suriname explains to the True Time.
The next Owru Skoro is on June 30 in connection with Keti-Koti. “We want to reflect on the strength, history and contribution of the Surinamese community. Keti-Koti has a deep meaning of freedom, connection and awareness,” says Young.
“Entertainment connects people and you can use that connection to create awareness, provide support and radiate positive energy”

The event at Utopia on the Anton Dragtenweg will have a strong cultural and emotional charge, without detracting from the well-known Owru Skoro atmosphere. “Visitors can expect the familiar high energy, top entertainment and strong performances, such as special acts, more live entertainment and a message of solidarity. We want people to go home not only with pleasure, but also with a sense of pride and belonging.”
Socially involved
Young states that it is also important to give something back to society with each edition. “Entertainment has a lot of power and reach, so we believe that people can use it positively. That is why we link all our events to a social initiative with which we draw attention to people who could use support.”
He says that Green Entertainment Suriname is not just about organizing parties, but also about impact. “We regularly join forces with friends and companies to help children and the elderly in need. We also make donations with our other initiative, Bori Tori.” For example, children’s and retirement homes have previously been supported. During the next activity, fifteen needy families will each receive an aid package, including food.
Young believes it is important that an entertainment organization is socially involved. “We are at the heart of society. Our events are attended by people from different groups and walks of life. We believe that you also have a responsibility to contribute something positive. Entertainment connects people and you can use that connection to create awareness, provide support and radiate positive energy.”
With the Keti-Koti edition, Green Entertainment Suriname wants to reach everyone, regardless of age, who loves culture, music, fun and positive vibes. But also people who value the meaning behind Keti-Koti.
Fun and awareness
Young calls the reactions of sponsors to the party concept with a social message positive. “Sponsors enjoy being associated with an event that not only provides entertainment, but also has social value. The audience appreciates that attention is paid to themes that are important to society. Nowadays people want to feel more than just going out for an evening; they also want to be part of something positive.”
He believes that entertainment in Suriname should be linked more often to social projects. “Entertainment has a huge influence, especially on young people and large groups of people. If, in addition to fun, events can create awareness or support social goals, then that can only be positive. That does not mean that every event has to be heavy or serious, but even small initiatives can make a big difference.”
The Owru Skoro party concept has built up its own identity over the years. The organization now wants to strengthen this by connecting entertainment and social involvement.
