Ukraine has requested a personal meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin during the G7 summit, according to information provided by Reuters, Zelensky himself announced.
It was reported that the leaders of the United States of America and the European Union were invited to attend the meeting.
“Trump and Macron will take part there – that is, Europeans plus America. This is a good opportunity for everyone to meet,” Zelenskiy said.
However, according to the Ukrainian president, Russia has once again demonstrated that it is not ready for dialogue on ending the war.
According to Zelensky, the United States agreed to invite Putin to the meeting, and a Ukrainian official also said that Zelensky had made this proposal to French President Macron. In addition, Ukraine directly sent an invitation to its Russian counterparts. However, no clear answer was given.
We remind you that the Kremlin still excludes the possibility that the leaders of Ukraine and Russia could meet in person – during a telephone conversation with Trump, Putin once again announced that if Zelensky wants to meet with him, he should come to Moscow.
This is not the first time that Ukraine has proposed a personal meeting between Zelenskiy and Putin to end the war – on June 4, the Ukrainian president sent an open letter to the Kremlin leader, inviting him to sit down at the negotiating table, and suggested doing so in Switzerland or Turkey.
In response to this letter, Putin announcedthat he does not see the point of a personal meeting with Zelensky.
