After the first and only trial for murder Joze Leutara – for which six Croats connected with the Punishment Battalion of the HVO and indirectly with the top of the HDZ BiH were accused – ended in 2002 with an acquittal, the main questions still remain unanswered: who and why killed the Croatian head of the federal police? In addition, after a sloppy process in which the entire indictment was based on contradictory and illogical statements of a protected witness – a repeatedly convicted criminal Merim Galijatovićwho was serving time in the Zenica prison for rape – the question arose as to who and why directed the investigation in that direction.
