A mobile team of the Customs Administration prevented an attempt to smuggle gold jewelry and broken gold with a total value of about 1.5 million denars at the Blace border crossing.
The case was discovered upon entering the country, when inspectors from the Department for Operational Affairs, based on a previous suspicion, carried out a detailed control of a passenger vehicle driven by a Macedonian citizen.
During the inspection, customs officials found broken gold and gold jewelry with a total weight of 324.7 grams. The jewelry was wrapped in a black bag and hidden in the drawer under the driver’s seat with the intention of being smuggled into the country.
The Customs Administration informs that the case has been handed over to the Department of Investigations, which has charged the person with the initials I.M. submitted a criminal complaint to the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje due to reasonable suspicion of the crime of “smuggling”, which is punishable under the Criminal Code.
The competent institutions continue with the procedure for the complete clearing of the case and determination of all the circumstances related to the attempt to illegally import gold into the country.
