Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hristo Polendakov stated that Bulgaria strongly condemns this, as he called it, “a demonstrative act of aggression without precedent in bilateral relations”, which, according to him, “put in danger the health and lives of the employees of the Bulgarian embassy, as well as the residents of the capital of Macedonia who were nearby during the attack”.

“Bulgaria takes into account the statements of the official institutions in the neighboring country and the quick reaction of the competent authorities, which led to the apprehension of the perpetrator. At the same time, we expect an effective investigation and legal resolution of the case, which will clearly show that such acts are impermissible,” he said.

Polendakov added that respecting the principles of the rule of law and taking effective measures to prevent and suppress hate crimes are crucial if a country wants to protect its European future.

“Any attempt to spread fear among Bulgarians in Macedonia is unacceptable and the Bulgarian state will continue to use all available mechanisms to oppose such phenomena,” he concluded.

Let us remind you, the incident happened on Monday, and a 44-year-old man was detained. According to information, he poured flammable liquid on an official vehicle and set it on fire. The fire quickly engulfed the car and then spread to a second vehicle parked nearby.
