The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today rejected as a “gross lie” accusations by Ukraine and the West that Russian forces hit one of the most famous Orthodox shrines, the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, during this morning’s large-scale attacks across Ukraine.
In those attacks, the monastery complex in Kiev, which is 1,000 years old, was allegedly damaged.
Earlier today, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that American Patriot anti-aircraft missiles, which were used by Ukrainians, were to blame for the damage to that religious building, reports Reuters.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Ukraine and the West of planning “another falsification” and stated that the Russian Defense Ministry accurately described what really happened.
In the statement, Zakharova also accused French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders of rushing to falsely condemn Moscow for the damage to the monastery, while remaining silent on the deadly Ukrainian strikes on a student dormitory and museum in Crimea, where, as she stated, a valuable work of art was destroyed.
