FARMERS in Carlsen Field are calling for an immediate increase in police patrols and security operations following a recent homicide and a series of criminal incidents that have heightened fears among residents and members of the agricultural community.
According to initial reports just before 6 a.m. on Monday, residents of Pig Farm Road in Carlsen Field heard a series of loud explosions. However, upon initial checks, nothing was found to be amiss.
About 4 p.m., however, residents observed the body of a man lying on his back in some bushes off the roadway. The deceased, who is still unidentified, appeared to have been shot several times.
President of the Trinidad Unified Farmers Association Shiraz Khan told the Express the latest killing has added to growing concerns about criminal activity in the area. According to Khan, residents experienced two attempted home invasions recently, while over the weekend a farmer reportedly lost ten cattle to thieves in what he described as a significant act of praedial larceny.
‘Crime continues,’ Khan said. ‘Last night (Monday) we had two attempts at home invasions. Over the weekend, someone stole ten cows from a farmer. So things are increasing. We are hoping for more police patrols. We don’t want this place to become a hotspot.’
Khan also suggested that the ongoing state of emergency could provide an opportunity for additional resources to be deployed to vulnerable rural communities.
Man fatally stabbed
In an unrelated incident, about 7 p.m. on Sunday 46-year-old Colin Anthony Danclair, a taxi driver of Piarco Old Road, D’Abadie was fatally stabbed.
According to police reports, Danclair was at his home with a woman he knew when they got into an argument. The confrontation soon became physical and the woman armed herself with a knife. Danclair was stabbed several times.
Other persons at the home, on hearing the commotion and seeing the injured man, notified the police and paramedics. They took him to the Arima Hospital, however, Danclair was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The woman involved in the altercation is said to be aiding police with their inquiries.
These two incidents have pushed the murder toll up to 175. The comparative for the same period in 2025 was 180.
