Péter Magyar Gives the Green Light for This Year’s Budapest Pride

The government is open to a public debate on the issue of marriage and adoption by same-sex couples. Furthermore, no one wants to prevent Budapest Pride from taking place, Prime Minister Péter Magyar told RTL Híradó.

“At present, the situation is completely clear: if a gathering has been properly registered, it may take place. No one wants to prevent this,” Prime Minister Péter Magyar told RTL Híradó in Parliament on Tuesday on the occasion of this year’s Budapest Pride parade.

    Fact

Last year, the parade was organized in cooperation with the city administration after the police had originally banned it. Criminal proceedings were later initiated against Mayor Gergely Karácsony, which the court suspended in March of this year and referred to the Constitutional Court. As reported by Infostart, the charges against Gergely Karácsony were dropped last week, and the authorities took similar action in the case of the organizer of the Pride event in Pécs. The reasoning given was that, in accordance with EU case law, the national court is obligated to ensure the primacy of EU law. However, according to a ruling by the European Court of Justice, the Child Protection Act, on which the Pride ban is based, violates EU law in several respects.

Prime Minister Péter Magyar also told RTL that

the government is open to a public debate on the issue of same-sex marriage and adoption.

The Prime Minister is awaiting proposals from professional associations on this matter, as well as regarding amendments to the law in connection with last year’s Pride.

This year’s parade is being organized by the “Szivárvány Misszió” (Rainbow Mission) Foundation, financed by Open Society Foundations connected to George Soros’s network.

The “Mi Hazánk” movement responded to Budapest Pride with an all-day program titled “March of Family Pride,” announced László Toroczkai, chairman and parliamentary group leader of the opposition party. One week after Pride, their event will take place with family programs, through which they aim to offer a positive response to the event organized by “what has become the world’s strongest lobby, the LGBTQ lobby,” the politician explained.

He pointed out that they also recommend to their sister parties abroad and the leadership of their European party family that they advocate in their countries for similar events for families based on traditional male and female roles, for the desire to have children, as well as for the protection of children and Christians, as these are the values of which we should be most proud.
