The French ambassador in Kosovo, Oliver Guerot, has congratulated the organization of the June 7 elections and their success.

However, Guerot has stated that what Kosovo needs now are institutions that function well. Such a thing, Guerot said, is also necessary for them to support Kosovo.

“What we need as a friend and partner country of Kosovo are institutions that work well: an Assembly, a president, a Government, so that we can continue to support Kosovo in its development, so that we can continue to work side by side with Kosovo to promote social development and economic development. There is a lot to be done, there is a lot of support in financial means to be received from the EU, but also from France, but for this we need the institutions in the country”, stated Guerot for Kosovapress.

He expressed himself as he said – full of confidence that this time the political parties will succeed in the talks to form the Assembly, to vote for a president and government.

He did not comment on the results achieved by the political subjects while the votes are being counted by the Central Election Commission, but he stated that due to the low participation in the voting, it remains for the parties to draw their own conclusions.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate the institutions of Kosovo, because the elections were organized in a very good way and were held in a free and transparent way. So this is really important. An electoral mechanism that works well is the basis of democracy. Therefore, thank you Kosovo for this”, said Guerot.

Asked about the role that France can play in supporting Kosovo’s democratic institutions after the elections, the French ambassador said that his country is ready to continue its support in various fields.

“Democracy has grown within the country (self-built) in this country and this is very good and we are happy to see this, to see that the investment we made, the political and military investment we made in this country, gave results. What we are now ready to do and more than willing to do, is to support the development, the economic development of Kosovo”, stated Guerot.

The June 7 elections were the third parliamentary elections held in Kosovo within 16 months. The election process was positively evaluated by the responsible institutions and monitoring organizations.

Citizen participation was lower compared to previous elections. This was assessed as ignoring the election process by the citizens, as a sign of protest for the frequent elections. /KP
