The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has declared that his Ukrainian counterpart will participate in the G7 summit, which will be held next week in France.
He has said that the invitation to Zelensky is made to “rebuild consensus” on support for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the four Arab states will be invited for talks on the Middle East conflict, Macron said.
The White House confirmed to Le Monde in May that President Donald Trump will also attend.
Guests will attend sessions on Tuesday at the summit of the Group of Seven major economies, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States, to be held in the French resort on Lake Evian from June 15 to 17.
The participation of the president, Volodymyr Zelensky “is very important for us because we need to rebuild the consensus within the G7 in support of Ukraine on the various aspects of the war” with Russia, including the need for “negotiations”, Macron said, a reference to the different opinions between European leaders and US President Donald Trump.
To address the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February, the leaders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates will also be invited to a special session on Tuesday.
The talks will focus on closing the Strait of Hormuz, which has “a real impact on our economies” due to rising fuel prices, and on “negotiations on Iran”, Macron said. He made these comments during a discussion with civil society representatives at the Elysée presidential palace.
After a dinner for G7 leaders on Monday and two sessions focused on the crises in Ukraine and the Middle East, the “North-South partnership” will also be on the agenda, Macron added.
“In addition to the IMF, the World Bank and the African Development Bank, we will bring to this session partners with whom we have built this agenda, in particular South Korea, India, Kenya and Brazil,” Macron also said.
The summit will also include discussions with technology companies from the United States and other countries.
