Kamboul district authorities have decided to temporarily suspend operations at a fertiliser factory for emitting dirty water and foul odours affecting residents and the environment.
Under the instructions of Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, Khim Sunsoda, Governor of Kamboul district, collaborated with experts to conduct an on-site inspection and temporarily suspend the “Chung Heng Fertiliser Co Ltd,” an agricultural fertiliser producer, in Trapeang Krasang village, Boeung Thom commune, Kamboul district, on Tuesday.
According to Sunsoda, the suspension came after complaints from residents about the company’s activities, which caused bad odours, affecting the environment and residents’ daily lives.
The governor said that after the inspection, the working group enacted several measures, requiring the factory owners to relocate their businesses to a suitable location that does not impact the community and prevents liquid waste from flowing onto people’s farmland.
The company must stop importing waste for further business operations and arrange to collect and properly store existing waste within two weeks to reduce the odour problem that is affecting residents.
In addition, the authorities required the factory owners to compensate affected residents, especially those who cannot use their rice fields for farming
