MSN reports that Gabriela Saldana, a 23-year-old student at Florida International University in the United States, was taken into custody on April 16 for allegedly posting bomb threats within a WhatsApp group and referencing the name Netanyahu.
These messages specifically mentioned the Ocean Bank Convocation Center and referenced controversial political imagery regarding the Capstone program.
Officers believed she was referring to Benjamin Netanyahu Prime Minister of Israel. In one of her messages she referenced ‘bonbons’ (among other insinuating remarks) which was taking as code for bombs.
The group was discussing an event to be held at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on April 10 when Saldana made the provocative remarks.
Her messages alarmed members of the group chat, which has about 215 members, to the point that they quickly alerted the authorities.
At a bond court hearing on 16 April Saldana claimed it was all a dumb joke according to a WSVN-TV report.
The presiding judge Mindy S. Glazer acknowledged Saldana’s position but stated that: ”…to an objective person it is not a joke.”
