“Another humanity is possible when we look upwards together, when we turn our gaze to God, when, united with Him, we look at humanity and face together the various challenges it presents”: this is what the Cardinal Metropolitan Archbishop of Barcelona, Juan José Omella Omella, said yesterday evening, Tuesday 9 June, during the prayer vigil with young people presided over by Leo XIV in the “Lluís Companys” Olympic stadium of the Catalan metropolis. Welcoming the Pontiff, the cardinal expressed joy and gratitude towards him: «We are immensely happy and grateful to have you among us. This is the Pope’s youth. Accumulated youth, youth of the present and youth of the future. We gathered in this stadium – the cardinal recalled – where the 1992 Olympic Games began, testifying to the international relaunch of this splendid city. Barcelona, capital of the Mediterranean, is also hosting the Mediterranean Meeting, Med 26, with the participation of over 60 bishops and 80 young people from the various dioceses overlooking the Mediterranean”.

Then, the cardinal recalled that «the Vigil began with a castleone of the cultural symbols of this splendid and enterprising Catalan land.” THE castlerecognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, are “human towers” and “are very reminiscent of the towers of the apostles that you will see at the Sagrada Família. The towers – concluded Cardinal Omella Omella – are a splendid demonstration of what we human beings are capable of when we work together for a common goal”.
