The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has completed 90% of the project to implement a bridge with a length of 1,500 meters and a capacity of two lanes in each direction, providing a direct entrance and exit between Sheikh Zayed Road and the “Dubai Harbour” area, one of the most prominent modern marine and tourist destinations in the emirate, which includes the largest yacht marinas in the Middle East.
The implementation of the project comes within the framework of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to develop advanced infrastructure that enhances the efficiency of the road network and keeps pace with the rapid urban and tourism growth witnessed by Dubai, in a way that supports the flow of traffic and raises the level of connectivity with vital development projects and major attractions. 1,400 engineers and workers are working on the project, distributed among 12 work teams, and the total work hours implemented have reached more than four million working hours since its launch, with the highest occupational safety indicators achieved. The amount of concrete used in the bridge exceeded 45 thousand cubic meters, while the amount of iron reached 8,273 tons.
According to the timetable, traffic movement across the bridge will be opened for those coming from Sheikh Zayed Road, from the Deira and Jebel Ali directions, towards Dubai Harbour, this June, and next July will witness the opening of traffic movement on the new bridge from Dubai Harbor towards Al Naseem Street, as well as traffic movement from the new bridge in the direction leading to the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street with Al Naseem Street.
The Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, Mattar Al Tayer, said in a press statement yesterday that the project is witnessing rapid progress in the pace of work, explaining that the total capacity of the bridge reaches 6,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, and that the project includes implementing development and surface improvements at four main intersections along the bridge’s path, which enhances the flow of traffic and increases the efficiency of connectivity with the region.
He added that the project, when opened, will contribute to reducing travel time from 12 minutes to three minutes, and improving the flow of traffic to and from Dubai Harbour, and to the surrounding areas.
It is worth noting that Dubai Harbor is unique in its distinguished location between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, and close to Dubai’s most famous landmarks such as Burj Al Arab, and embraces many living, shopping and entertainment options. A development project is currently being implemented there that extends over a distance of 1.5 kilometers, and includes a residential complex that includes 24 towers and about 7,500 residential apartments.
