San Pedro Sula.
A temporary increase of five lempiras to the fare in the collective taxi service was approved by the Honduran Institute of Land Transportation (IHTT).
The adjustment occurs after negotiations between representatives of the sector and that state entity. The IHTT reported that the adjustment responds to the “constant increases in fuel prices and their impact on the operation of the sector.”
In addition, the IHTT stressed that the measure is temporary (it will begin on Monday, April 27) and that the operation will include a general inspection to “guarantee verification, control and compliance with current regulations.”
The decision occurs in the midst of a dialogue process between the authorities and representatives of the sector, who sought to reach an agreement regarding the impact of the increase in fuel prices as a result of the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz (Middle East).
The transporters had warned that the suspension of the increase did not mean the end of the actions, since, if they did not obtain concrete responses from the Government, they were going to call a national strike in the coming days, after fuel prices add up to 16 consecutive increases.
In recent weeks, the IHTT authorized temporary adjustments in the intercity bus service also as a response measure to the rise in fuel prices worldwide.
