The Web Summit Lisbon is approaching and with a focus on center stage (central stage) will be Chinese technology.
The prediction is from Paddy Cosgrave, CEO and founder of Web Summit, who spoke to journalists. The organization is responsible for the Web Summit Rio, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) between Monday and Thursday this week.
The events feature a large number of startups, entrepreneurs, potential investors and curious people. One of the major focuses is, inevitably, Artificial Intelligence (AI). Now, asked by DN/DV about Web Summit Lisboa, whose 11th edition is scheduled for November, the person in charge shines the spotlight on what is being developed in China.
“AI will continue to dominate (attention)”, in a context in which Chinese open models (open source modelsin Portuguese nomenclature) are growing rapidly. Cosgrave described as “unbelievable” the fact that Chinese company Deepseek surpassed Open AI (ChatGPT) and Anthropic (Claude) in business users in the US.
The data comes from the North American platform Ramp and was released this week.
That said, “the importance of Chinese language models for the future of AI will take center stage”, that is, the central stage – considered the most important of the event’s various stages.
Lisbon as a gateway for Brazilians
“When we started in Brazil, the expectation in Portugal was that the number of Brazilians in Lisbon would decrease… but the opposite happened”, recalls the person in charge. At issue is the idea that the Portuguese economy can function as a route to reach the European continent.
“Brazilians realized that if they want an opportunity in Europe, Portugal is very well positioned and the Web Summit is an incredible opportunity for ambitious Brazilian companies”, highlights Paddy Cosgrave.
