NEW-NICKERIE — During surveillance by the police of the West region, 23-year-old AMA was arrested just after half past six on Wednesday evening on the Awadhoesseinweg in the Nickerie district. He had 24 boxes of different types of medicine in his car. The man stated to law enforcement that he had received the medication from a Guyanese along the backtrack route, the Suriname Police Corps wrote on its website on Thursday evening.
During the search of AMA’s home, his seventeen-year-old partner NT was also handcuffed. The officers did this because 151 packages of drugs – the police assume that the pressed, dried substance is marijuana and/or hashish – with a total weight of approximately 151 kilograms were found.
The vehicle, medication and drugs were seized in the interest of the investigation. After being brought to the police station, AMA and NT were taken into custody after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service. The further investigation has been transferred to the Fraud Department and the Narcotics Brigade.
