Asghar Jahangir, a representative of the judicial system, said that property and funds are being systematically confiscated from “traitors of the motherland”.
Dozens of people have been executed in Iran since the war began. Since late February, when the United States and Israel attacked Iran, residents of Iran’s major cities have also reported increasing repression.
They also include increased vehicle checks in cities by security services. Many Iranians are concerned that critics’ bank accounts will be frozen.
The Iranian government justifies such measures as a fight against suspected spies and traitors.
Critics also accuse Iran’s leadership of using seized assets to shore up its finances.
