The summit in Tivat confirmed that the European Union (EU) appreciates the results of Montenegro on its European path, Boris Pejović, a member of the Presidency of the Europe Now Movement (PES) and Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro, announced today.
“The European Union – Western Balkans summit, held in Tivat, is a strong confirmation that the European Union recognizes and appreciates the efforts that Montenegro is making on its European path. The messages sent by the highest European officials are a strong incentive to continue with the reforms that lead Montenegro to achieve its strategic goal – full membership in the European Union,” said Pejović in a statement submitted by PES.
He added that it was particularly significant “that Montenegro was the host of this important gathering, the largest and most significant in our history, which once again confirmed the role of Montenegro as a leader of the European integration process in the region”.
“The organization of such a meeting in Montenegro is an additional confirmation of the growing international reputation of our country and the trust that European partners have in its European course,” said Pejović.
According to him, “a clear message was sent from the summit that progress is valued through concrete results and implemented reforms, which represents recognition for all that Montenegro has achieved in a very short period”.
“That’s why the evaluations of European leaders that Montenegro’s membership in the European Union is an achievable goal if we continue with the consistent implementation of reforms, strengthening the rule of law and improving institutions. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but the messages from Tivat confirm that the effort, responsibility and commitment to reforms are recognized. That’s why we continue resolutely, with the belief that all socio-political actors are aware that the European future of Montenegro depends above all on our results, but we are also convinced that today our country is closer to membership in the European Union than ever in its history,” said Pejović.
