Marta Gonzalezone of the Dominican actresses with the greatest projection inside and outside the country, assumes one of the most challenging roles of her career with her participation in “What else can you do to me?”film directed by Felix German which hits theaters starting June 4. In this production, the actress marks a new point of interpretive maturity by assuming a co-leading role that required unprecedented physical and emotional dedication.
The film production, produced by Manuela and Carlos Germaninaugurated the VI Fine Arts Film Festival Made in the DRwith a proposal marked by sensitivity, emotional rawness and the urban lyric of Homero Pumarol.
González moves away from any comfortable zone to construct Yolanda, a defiant, contradictory and deeply wounded woman. From that place, the actress explores a more vulnerable and risky register, with a performance that is based on the emotional truth of the character.
Within the story, Yolanda moves between strength and fracture, between the desire for freedom and the marks of a life that still weighs on her. His presence does not come to soften the story, but to reveal a more uncomfortable and human area of the film.
“Yolanda inhabits discomfort. She is a strong woman, but deeply broken. I am interested in characters who do not seek to please, who are contradictory and who force the viewer to question themselves. She demanded that I get rid of all vanity and connect with very dark and human emotions,” said actress Marta González.
The plot follows Eugenio, played by Yasser Michelena wandering poet marked by abandonment and loss, who embarks on a journey of redemption where guilt, compassion, and unexpected bonds end up modifying the course of his destiny. In that universe of wounds, asphalt and poetry, Yolanda appears as a determining figure.
Yolanda (Marta González) with Eugenio, played by Yasser Michelén, in “What else can you do to me.”
To build the character, González gained approximately 15 pounds and appears on screen completely without makeup. In addition, she went through a characterization process that included special prostheses on the face, neck, arms and hands, with the purpose of projecting a woman close to 50 years old, marked by wrinkles, spots on the skin and visible signs of the passage of time.
The transformation was not just physical. The actress also took on scenes of high emotional and corporal exposure, including a semi-nude that required complete confidence in the artistic vision of the project and absolute dedication to show Yolanda without artifice.
Marta González delivers a performance full of sensitivity, risk and nuances. Her work in the film reveals a more contained, profound actress willing to sustain the emotional weight of a complex character.
“I am deeply grateful to Félix Germán for giving me Yolanda and to Micky Montilla for thinking of me for this character. They are characters that come rarely in the life of an actor. It transformed me inside and out, and reminded me that the best art is born when we are willing to take risks,” said González.
More than a story about pain, the film proposes a look at the consequences of our decisions and those encounters capable of altering a life when it is least expected.
The premiere of this project finds González in a stage of notable professional growth. The actress has two pre-nominations for the Platinum Ibero-American Cinema Awards and in March 2025 he obtained an Emmy Award for the production La Fuerza de Creer, a recognition that strengthened his presence on international stages.
Currently, he is also part of the main cast of Día 8, a film that is showing in theaters throughout Spain.
After its arrival in the Dominican theaters, Qué más puede hacerme will begin its international tour with its participation in the Lighthouse Festival in New Haven, marking a new step for the projection of this Dominican production.
With this role, Marta González opens a more risky and forceful acting stage. Her Yolanda not only expands the record of her career, it also confirms her willingness to take on characters that demand truth, discomfort and absolute dedication.
