On June 2, a meeting of Turkish and Armenian business circles took place in the city of Kars. It was held at the initiative of the Kars Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KATSO), as well as with the support of the Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministries, the Union of Turkish Chambers of Commerce and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB). During the meeting, the possibilities of cooperation in the fields of transport, logistics, tourism and trade were discussed.
In his opening speech, the president of the Kars Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kadir Bozan, noted that Kars has been one of the important centers of trade routes throughout history, emphasizing the importance of regional economic cooperation.
According to him, the development of transport and logistics infrastructure is of great importance for the economic future of the region, and he expressed hope that each meeting will lead to new investments and the formation of friendly ties.
The member of the board of “TOBB” and the president of Erzurum Chamber of Commerce and Industry Saim Ozakalin noted that the business world has an important role in the development of relations between countries. According to him, the success of Turkish companies in international projects can increase even more thanks to regional cooperation.
Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Hayk Darbinyan also made a speech. He noted that the process of regulating relations between the two countries creates new opportunities for economic cooperation.
“Direct trade opportunities emerging between Armenia and Turkey can be useful for both countries,” Darbinyan stated.
Ayshe Uzer, deputy head of the department for Caucasus affairs of the Turkish MFA, also noted that important steps are being taken in the direction of the development of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
“We hope that 2026 will be the year when these goals will become reality. The cooperation of business circles will contribute to the strengthening of our relations”, noted Uzer.
After the official speeches, Turkish and Armenian businessmen held closed-door B2B meetings in the fields of food industry, textiles, construction, tourism and technology. During the meetings, the possibilities of establishing new commercial ties and implementing joint projects were discussed.
