How the Asia-Plus newspaper is printed: the path of the idea to the latest issue

The Asia-Plus media group turned 30 years old. Over the years, Asia-Plus has become for thousands of readers, viewers and listeners one of the most recognizable and authoritative sources of information in Tajikistan.

Today we will show you the path each issue of our newspaper takes – from the preparation of materials to publication.

Each issue of the newspaper goes through several stages. First, journalists prepare texts on the editor’s instructions, and then he edits them.

The editor makes an outline of the newspaper issue, indicating in it the titles of the articles and the amount of space they should occupy on each specified page. The editor finds an illustration for each text; for a newspaper, unlike a website, they must be larger and of better quality – otherwise they will be blurry when printed.

Afterwards, all files are transferred to the layout designer, who assembles the latest issue using a special program. It is he who is responsible for how the pages of the newspaper will visually look.

Once the issue is ready, it is sent electronically to the printing house. Here the prepared layout is transferred to special metal plates, which are then installed in the printing machine.

The atmosphere here is special: the noise of printing machines, the smell of paper, printing ink and real printing presses. The work does not stop here – each stage requires coordination and professionalism.

Text and images are gradually transferred from metal plates to paper. A printing press can make about a thousand copies of a newspaper in just ten minutes. This is how the electronic layout turns into a real newspaper, which readers will pick up very soon.

Those who have ever leafed through the latest issue of a newspaper know its special smell well. It is felt especially vividly immediately after the newspaper is published. Some say it’s the smell of news.

…In recent years, newspapers have faced serious challenges. More and more people are getting information through the Internet, social networks and digital platforms. Last year alone, seven print publications stopped working in Tajikistan.

But Asia-Plus continues to remain close to its audience – both in the digital space and in print format. For many readers, the Asia-Plus newspaper is not just a source of information. It’s a habit, a tradition and part of their week.

Every Thursday, thousands of loyal readers wait for a new issue of the newspaper. They know that on its pages they will find not only news, but also analytics, human stories, reports, interviews and views on important events in Tajikistan and beyond.
