By: Jasmine Netzler. The Chinese Ambassador to Samoa, H.E. Fei Mingxing, met with the management of the Samoa Association of Sports & National Olympic Committee (SASNOC) this week, to discuss China-Samoa cooperation in the sports sector.
The talks were between the Ambassador, SASNOC President, Tuaopepe Asiata Jerry Wallwork, and CEO Tuala Matthew Vaea.
The Chinese Embassy reports that the Ambassador was briefed on the 2026 Universal Weightlifting Cup, which Samoa is proudly looking forward to hosting from 23 April to 2 May 2026.
Tuaopepe reiterated that SASNOC looks forward to further China-Samoa sports exchanges and cooperation and warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation to attend this international event and thanked China for its assistance and support to Samoa.
The Ambassador congratulated Tuaopepe for Samoa hosting the recent 2026 Oceania Wrestling Championships where Samoa showcased its sports facilities and hosted the final day on the beach at Minoa.
Samoa’s wrestlers dominated all categories of the competition, and closed with 34 medals.
The Ambassador said China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with Samoa in sports development and see tangible benefits for our people.
H.E. Fei Mingxing extended his well wishes for the success of the 2026 Universal Weightlifting Cup.
