The president of the National Transportation Federation The New Option (Fenathrane), Juan Hubieresexpressed this Monday during a press conference, his support for the proposal raised by Daily Listing, which proposes that heavy-duty vehicles circulate only at night.
Hubieres described the initiative as a important measure” and recalled that this was proposed years ago together with the late transportation technician Alex Erwin, as part of a set of actions and measures to improve urban mobility.
He explained that in cities of Europe and the United States Trucks usually operate between 7:00 at night and 6:00 in the morning, which helps reduce traffic congestion during the day.
Hubieres admitted that this measure would not solve the root problems traffic problems But he did maintain that it would help reduce a significant load on the roads and would benefit citizens. However, he noted that its implementation would require strengthen security in order to guarantee the protection of carriers and goods during night hours.
Hubieres also indicated that the proposal should be part of a much broader plan of traffic organizationwhere it includes alternate schedules for different commercial, educational and work activities, where its only objective is to reduce the number of vehicles circulating at the same time during peak hours.
Precisely for this reason, he considered that the circulation of trucks at night would contribute to preventing them from traveling through the main avenues during the day, thus reducing congestion and improving mobility in Greater Santo Domingo.
Likewise, he stated that the measure must be analyzed from a technical perspective and thinking about the collective interest. “We have raised this proposal many times and we see it as correct,” stated the union leader, reiterating his support for the initiative that seeks to reorganize cargo transportation in the country.
