MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – At a sitting of the third session of the House of Representatives the MPs ratified the agreement between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters, BelTA has learned.
The agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters between Belarus and Myanmar will help advance Belarus’ economic interests in Southeast Asia and specifically in Myanmar, Aleksandr Shpakovsky, a member of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, told the media.
“In connection with this, the state is actively developing the legal framework that will allow us to cooperate effectively,” the MP said.
Just in April and May of this year, the president signed laws ratifying agreements on mutual visa waiver and on the elimination of double taxation. Children from Myanmar will be among the 272 children set to take part in the wellness program at the Zubrenok children’s camp in Belarus.
There is an intensive exchange of delegations. In May, Belarus hosted the Myanmar minister of defense and a delegation from Myanmar’s ruling party – Union Solidarity and Development Party. A delegation from the National Bank of Belarus visited Myanmar. We are currently working on cooperation in the banking sector,” Aleksandr Shpakovsky.
Thus, this agreement will organically complement the legal framework that has already been established between Myanmar and Belarus.
The MP added that in the first quarter of this year, trade between the two countries skyrocketed by more than 300%. “We are only at the beginning of the journey, but the relations are truly very warm, both between the leaders of the two states and between the parliaments. Cooperation has been actively gaining momentum. So this is yet another brick in the building of Belarusian-Myanmar relations,” Aleksandr Shpakovsky added.
