MOSCOW, 3 June (BelTA) – Belarus has suggested the development of a BRICS scientometric database. The initiative was put forward at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by Tatiana Lugina, Chairwoman of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance Regional Office in Belarus and Director General of Kamvol, BelTA has learned.
“Bibliographic abstract databases are tools for tracking the citation of scientific publications. Essentially, they are systems for tracking and identifying the most relevant topics across various fields of science,” Tatiana Lugina explained. “These databases act as aggregators, amassing vast amounts of information that are continually supplemented with new publications.”
According to her, the relevance of this initiative stems from the fact that Western structures currently dictate the rules of the game in the world of science. “At present, not a single platform of this kind of ranking database is located on the territory of BRICS countries or owned by them. This means we are still giving away our research, knowledge, and experience to others for free. Therefore, now more than ever, it is legitimate to raise the question of creating our own unified scientometric database tailored to the scientific communities of BRICS countries,” Tatiana Lugina said.
She noted that the development of a unified BRICS scientometric database would contribute to scientific and information security, consolidate scientific efforts within BRICS countries, and allow scientific publications to be concentrated on an accessible and controllable resource.
