The Someș Water Company, supplier of drinking water in the counties of Cluj, Mureș and Sălaj, launched an “insistent appeal” to consumers on Monday, March 25. “If efforts are not made to use potable water from the network strictly for domestic purposes, others will suffer,” the company says, in the context where those downstream may run out of water if it is also used for filling swimming pools or agricultural activities.
“With the arrival of the hot season, the Someș Water Company finds that a significant part of the drinking water from the public distribution network is used for activities such as watering gardens, greenhouses, orchards, yards or for livestock farms. This additional consumption can generate flow decreases or even interruptions in the water supply for downstream users, affecting the provision of minimum consumption and hygiene needs. We strongly appeal to citizens to use drinking water from the public network exclusively for domestic purposes”, the company’s representatives say, on Monday, in a post on Facebook.
For agricultural or gardening activities, it is recommended to use alternative sources such as wells, wells, springs or collected rainwater.
“If efforts are not made to use potable water from the network strictly for domestic purposes, others will suffer. We remind all users served by Compania de Apa Someș SA that the legislation in force discourages the use of potable water distributed through public networks for purposes other than to meet strictly domestic needs,” adds the cited source.
The company’s representatives mention that these provisions are also found in the service provision contracts concluded with users.
“A report by Apelor Române emphasizes the fact that it is important for the population to understand that drinking water supply systems are designed without including consumption for irrigation or filling swimming pools. Water supply networks are designed exclusively to cover domestic consumption”, say the representatives of the Someș Water Company.
Currently, according to an announcement published on the company’s website, drinking water is supplied after the schedule in Rus, Fântânele, Ileanda and Bizuşa localities, Sălaj county, due to the decrease in water flow at the catchment source.
The service area of the water operator includes the counties of Cluj, Sălaj and Mureș.
