A seminar organized by the Beni Mellal regional social development agency
Awareness: As part of the first national awareness campaign, launched by the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and Family, in partnership with UN Women and the United Nations Population Fund, around the subject “Strengthening women’s participation in public life”, under the theme “Your hand in ours, let’s participate in development”, aiming to highlight the importance of women’s participation in public life, and to combat various forms of discrimination and negative stereotypes associated with women in different areas of life, the regional coordination of the Social Development Agency of the Beni Mellal region organized, Tuesday June 2, 2026, an awareness seminar on the theme “The role of economic empowerment in strengthening the participation of women in public life”, in the seminar room of the Beni Mellal Chamber of Commerce.
As the 2026-2027 electoral deadlines approach, a first national awareness campaign dedicated to strengthening the participation of women in public life will be launched under the theme “Strengthening the participation of women in public life” and the slogan “Your hand in ours, let’s participate in development”. This initiative aims to promote the involvement of women, particularly younger generations, in decision-making processes and representative institutions, as an essential lever for democratic consolidation and sustainable development.
As an extension of the reforms undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, strengthening the participation of women in public life is today a major issue in the consolidation of the rule of law, participatory democracy and sustainable development.
“In recent years,” said Abdelhadi Menani, regional coordinator of the Social Development Agency, “Morocco has made significant progress in promoting women’s rights. These achievements have resulted in an increased presence of women in elected institutions, an improvement in their access to positions of responsibility as well as a strengthening of their participation in economic, social and political life. This progress has been favored by constitutional, legislative and institutional reforms enshrining the principles of equality and parity, particularly through the provisions of the 2011 Constitution.
And added: “In this context, the approach of the 2026-2027 elections represents a strategic opportunity to encourage more active participation of women in the management of public affairs. The ambition is to make their political commitment a driver of development and a factor in strengthening democratic governance.” Despite the progress made, several obstacles continue to limit the full participation of women in public life. Among the main challenges are the persistence of stereotypes linked to traditional roles assigned to women, their low representation in certain decision-making spaces, as well as the specific difficulties encountered by women living in rural areas or in fragile areas. Added to this are certain discriminatory practices and limits to the economic and social empowerment of several categories of women.
The national campaign thus aims to raise awareness throughout society of the importance of female participation in the management of public affairs. It also aims to encourage women, and more particularly young women among them, to engage in political and partisan action, while promoting their access to positions of responsibility. Combating gender stereotypes and promoting a culture of equality are also among the priorities of this initiative.
