Exactly one week after the first picture with Trump looking down on a Greenlandic city, he shares the picture again.
President of the United StatesDonald Trump, is apparently not done focusing on Greenland.
On his own social media, Truth Social, the American president has shared a picture in which he looks out over a Greenlandic town. He has a firm grip on a rock in the background.
On the picture it says “Hello, Greenland” – “Hello, Grønland” in Danish.
According to TV 2, this is the East Greenland town of Tasiilaq.
It’s the same photo that Trump shared on May 23.
The image first came from Donald Trump after his special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, had visited the Arctic area.
He arrived on Sunday 17 May in Nuuk and later met with Greenland’s government summit.
Subsequently, government leader Jens-Frederik Nielsen (Demokraatit) and naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs, Múte B. Egede (IA), announced that they had had a good meeting with envoys from the USA.
– Only one line
Jens-Frederik Nielsen also said at a press conference that the two had emphasized the line that the Greenlandic government has taken from the start.
– We said that Greenland and Greenlandic society must be respected, said the head of government at a press conference in Nuuk.
Before his departure, Jeff Landry reiterated that the US needs to rebuild its presence in Greenland.
– There is only one line for us. It is red, white and blue. You must remember that the president’s appreciation of Greenland is due to the fact that Greenland is just inside the western hemisphere, Jeff Landry told Sermitsiaq.
Howery: Trump has taken the use of force off the table
According to the US ambassador to Denmark, Ken Howery, Trump has taken “the use of force off the table.
– The future of Greenland is something that the Greenlanders themselves must decide, he said, according to the Greenlandic media KNR, during the opening of a new American consulate in Nuuk on 21 May.
The USA currently has a single military base in Greenland. It’s Pituffik Space Base.
According to DR, it is being discussed whether three or four new American bases should be opened in Greenland.
The relationship between the US and Greenland as well as the US and Denmark has become tense because Trump has repeatedly aired the idea of taking over Greenland, which is part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
