Oman ranks first globally in Export Supply Chain Start-Up Index

Muscat : The Sultanate of Oman has achieved advanced regional and global results in several indicators within the 2025 Logistics Performance Index (LPI) report issued by the World Bank. This reflects the efficiency of its logistics system and its competitiveness in the fields of maritime transport and postal services, and enhances its position as a global logistics hub, as this index measures the efficiency of supply chains and maritime, air, and postal trade across countries.

The Sultanate of Oman secured first place globally in the “Export Supply Chain Initiation” index with a record time not exceeding 0.8 days, an achievement that reflects the efficiency of its logistics system and the speed of its commercial procedures. This index measures the entire time duration of an empty container’s cycle from its departure until its return loaded and ready for export through the port, serving as an indicator that reflects the high operational efficiency and speed of container handling in Omani ports.

The Sultanate of Oman also ranked ninth globally among 165 countries in the “Import Supply Chain Completion” index, which measures the time taken from the delivery of a container to the consumer until its return empty to the depot, reflecting the efficiency of import operations and the smooth movement of goods.

At the GCC level, the Sultanate of Oman ranked second in the “Export Container Dwell Time in Port” index, which measures the period that an export container remains inside the port of departure from its entry until it is loaded onto the ship. It also ranked third in the GCC in the “Direct Shipping Line Services” index, which measures the number of regular maritime shipping services connecting the country’s ports with other ports around the world.

In the “Number of Shipping Alliances” index, the Sultanate of Oman achieved 25th place globally out of 169 countries and second in the GCC. This index measures the level of cooperation among shipping line companies in jointly managing operational and commercial activities, contributing to expanding maritime networks and accessing a larger number of global ports and destinations.

It also registered 39th place globally and third in the GCC in the “Number of Direct Shipping Connectivity Partners” index, which measures the number of markets that can be reached directly from the ports of the Sultanate of Oman via regular shipping lines.

In the postal services sector, the Sultanate of Oman achieved a distinguished performance by ranking 16th globally out of 190 countries and first in the GCC in the “Business-to-Business Postal Delivery Time” index, reflecting the efficiency of postal operations and the speed of commercial shipment delivery.

This advanced performance comes as a reflection of continuous national efforts to develop the logistics sector by strengthening infrastructure, expanding the network of ports and maritime and postal services, and raising the efficiency of operational processes, thereby contributing to supporting trade and investment movements and reinforcing the status of the Sultanate of Oman as a global logistics hub.

The Logistics Performance Index is one of the global indices issued by the World Bank to measure the efficiency of supply chains and trade across countries. In its developed version, it relies on actual operational data at the shipment level instead of traditional surveys, providing a more accurate and reliable measurement of the logistics sector’s performance.

The index is based on analyzing three main dimensions: connectivity, speed, and reliability, in addition to a wide range of sub-indicators that reflect the performance of maritime, air, and postal transport services on a global level.
