IT’S TIME FOR A MACEDONIAN STRATEGY FOR UKRAINE
While the world is talking about peace in Ukraine, Macedonia must start thinking about the day after. History shows that the greatest economic opportunities do not belong to the largest countries, but to those who will be the first to organize and offer concrete solutions.
Macedonia needs a Macedonian consortium for the Ukrainian market!
The post-war reconstruction of Ukraine will open a huge demand for construction companies, infrastructure projects, energy facilities, digital solutions, logistics services, agricultural machinery, food products and professional staff. It is in these areas that Macedonia has companies and knowledge that can be competitive on the European market.
1. Our construction companies can participate in the construction of residential and commercial buildings, roads and communal infrastructure.
2. Agriculture and the food industry can establish new partnerships and export channels.
3. Transport and logistics companies can be part of the new European corridors that will be created.
4. Energy companies can offer expertise in renewable energy sources and power systems.
5. The Macedonian IT sector can become part of the digital reconstruction of Ukrainian institutions and companies.
But all that will not happen by itself. That is why it is necessary to immediately establish a “national center for Ukraine” as a joint platform, for example, of the Government, chambers of commerce, the business community, universities and the Macedonian business diaspora. The center should be the brain and coordinator of all activities related to the future performance of Macedonian companies on the Ukrainian market. Instead of reacting when the rebuilding starts, we need to be ready before it starts. R.N.M.
Some thoughts on a 10-point action plan
- Formation of a national center for Ukraine with the participation of the state and the business community.
- Creation of a Macedonian “consortium for Ukraine” composed of companies from several sectors.
- Creating a register of domestic companies and experts interested in the Ukrainian market.
- Establishing direct contacts with Ukrainian institutions, chambers of commerce and local authorities.
- Organizing economic forums and business missions dedicated to Ukraine.
- Preparation of specific project offers before the international tenders are announced.
- Connection with companies from the region for joint performance of large infrastructure projects.
- Providing financial and diplomatic mechanisms to support Macedonian companies.
- Involvement of universities and the expert public in the preparation of personnel and expert analyses.
- Development of a national strategy for economic cooperation with Ukraine in the period 2026-2035.
The collegium of “Nova Makedonija”, debating on this topic, states that this is not just a journalistic challenge. Furthermore, that this is not just a business opportunity. But, in all the chaos of pressures on Macedonia, this is an opportunity for Macedonia to show vision, organization and economic maturity. When the reconstruction of Ukraine begins, the question will not be who is willing to participate, but who was ready in time. So the time to act is now. What is organized today will be part of the opportunities of tomorrow. R.N.M.
