Scheduled flights began operating at the end of March. Starting June 10, the German airline SkyHub PAD will suspend its flights between Pécs and Munich.
The German airline SkyHub PAD is suspending its flights between Pécs and Munich as of June 10 due to the global economic impact and rising kerosene prices.
According to a statement released Thursday by Pécs–Pogány Airport, SkyHub PAD, which coordinates the flights, is forced to suspend operations due to the global economic impact and rising kerosene prices.
The affected flights from Pécs will be suspended starting June 10, and although the statement indicates this is only a temporary measure, no date for resumption has been announced, reported Airportal.hu.
However, flights will operate as usual until June 10; for bookings for dates after that, the airline will refund the ticket price in accordance with legal regulations.
The announcement further states that behind the scenes, discussions have already begun with the Danish operator (DAT) and Lufthansa to ensure a long-term and stable continuation.
Hungary Today reported at the end of March that scheduled flights had resumed from Pécs–Pogány Airport after an eighteen-year hiatus, following the arrival of the first flight operated by SkyHub from Munich. Levente Magyar, who was Parliamentary State Secretary at the time, believed that this step was of regional significance and opened up new prospects for Pécs, Baranya, and Southern Transdanubia.
At the time, everyone was still optimistic that the resumption of scheduled flights from Pécs–Pogány Airport would also serve the region’s economic development. However, the ripples of the Middle East conflict could easily derail this scenario as well.
