Meetings of the 4+4 Small Dialogue Committee began in Tunisia under the auspices and facilitation of the UN Support Mission in Libya, with participants resuming discussions on electoral laws aimed at establishing an agreed electoral framework and a workable timeline for implementation.
The committee previously met in Tunisia on May 4, with the participation of High Council of State members Ali Abdulaziz and Abduljalil Al-Shawesh, Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Walid Al-Lafi, and Mustafa Al-Manea representing the Government of National Unity, alongside Adam Bousakhra, Zayed Hadiya, Abdulrahman Al-Abbar, and Al-Shaibani Bouhmoud representing Haftar-affiliated eastern government.
At the time, the UN mission said the meeting featured constructive discussions on the constitutional and legal frameworks governing elections, with participants agreeing to continue consultations and reconvene in June.
During an earlier meeting in Rome in April, the committee reached an agreement on restructuring the board of the High National Elections Commission, recommending that the Attorney General nominate a member of the judiciary known for competence, integrity, and impartiality to serve as chairman of the commission.
The committee also nominated Ali Al-Tayeb Abduljawad, Haytham Ali Al-Tabouli, and Ali Abu Salah on behalf of the House of Representatives, and Sanaa Al-Lishani, Badioui Mohammed Badioui, and Ali Miftah Al-Mabrouk on behalf of the High Council of State to serve on the new board of the commission.
Participants at that meeting stressed the need to end the political deadlock and reach consensual, implementable electoral laws as a step toward holding national elections.
