- A 28-year-old Portuguese man was speeding at 158 km/h in an 80 zone on the A2 in Hergiswil NW in mid-May.
- Exceeding 71 km/h constitutes a speeding offense under the Road Traffic Act.
- The man was arrested and faces criminal consequences and a driver’s license suspension.
The Nidwalden cantonal police have taken a speeder out of traffic. The 28-year-old was traveling north on the A2 motorway at 11:38 p.m. on May 15th when he was caught traveling at 158 kilometers per hour by a semi-stationary radar system in the Hergiswil area.
A maximum of 80 kilometers per hour is permitted on the route, which, after the legally required safety penalty, corresponds to a speeding violation of a full 71 kilometers per hour. The action therefore constitutes a speeding offense under the Road Traffic Act.
The offending driver, a 28-year-old Portuguese citizen living in central Switzerland, was identified and arrested a few days after the offense. He was subsequently questioned about the matter. After the complaint was made to the Nidwalden public prosecutor’s office and the driver’s license was handed over to the administrative authorities, the man was released. The accused faces severe criminal consequences as well as a long-term driving license revocation.
