In addition, Melnyk stated the need for the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution on “immediate and unconditional ceasefire”, as well as the release of prisoners of war and civilians according to the “all for all” formula.
He also once again called to find deprivation mechanism Russia’s permanent membership in the UN Security Council.
According to the diplomat, Ukraine’s strikes on Russian military targets are undermining Russia’s ability to sustain the war.
In addition, he stated that Russian propaganda actually recognized the indiscriminate strikes of the Russian Federation on civilian objects in Kyiv.
Speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Melnyk referred to the statement of Russian propagandist Volodymyr Solovyov, who, according to the diplomat, admitted that Russian troops do not distinguish between military and civilian targets.
“Russian bombs and missiles have no eyes,” Melnyk quoted Solovyov as saying.
According to Ukraine’s deputy ambassador, the Kremlin claimed for years that the Russian Federation strikes only military targets, but now “even its own official propaganda machine admits that Russia really kills indiscriminately.”
Melnyk also criticized the statements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation about strikes on the so-called “decision-making centers”, noting that the Lukyanivsky market was among the destroyed objects in Kyiv.
In addition, the diplomat stated that, according to estimates from open sources, the cost of a massive Russian attack on Kyiv was about $360 million.
“This amount could finance approximately 35 modern schools or 12 fully equipped hospitals,” he said.
